PALMERSTON NORTH — The Bishop of Palmerston North diocese, Bishop Charles Drennan, has announced the appointments of four priests in different parishes.
Bishop Drennan appointed Fr Craig Butler as regional dean of the North Taranaki Pastoral Area.
Fr Adonis Rancho has been appointed as the new parish priest of St Joseph’s, New Plymouth. Fr Peter Brockhill is parish priest of Marton and Bulls and Fr Vijay Dung Dung is administrator of the Opunake and Pungarehu parishes.
“Pastoral leadership is, of course, not only about priests. In all our pastoral areas we are currently engaged in a very thorough process of reconfiguration of structures and roles to ensure that a new vibrancy takes hold within our communities,” Bishop Drennan said in a pastoral letter dated May 5, 2014.
He said Fr Butler’s position is new.
“This will give him time to devote his energies to supporting priests in north Taranaki (the diocese’s largest pastoral area), as well as the various chaplains, to facilitate the pastoral care of St Philomena’s following their tragic fire, and to address the ongoing development of the St Joseph’s site.”
He said various reasons required the shifts to be implemented immediately.
