Senior primary school pupils at St Patrick’s Napier got behind the Caritas “Move It” challenge at the end of term 1.According to Caritas, the Move It challenge focuses on understanding how lack of access contributes to poverty. It highlights the plight of people who have to travel long distances to meet basic needs like water, food, safety, health and education.

Staff and years seven and eight St Patrick’s pupils decided they would hold their challenge on
the school field from 7am-7pm. With 100 children taking part, the best way to do it was in three-hour shifts.

The children chose the session that best suited them and walked for three hours (a few even ran for their entire shift).

According to the school, Sam Start ran 77 laps, which equates to just over 38 kilometres.

Fund-raising continued throughout the day by way of a barbecue throughout, and raised more than $200.
