The Society of St Pius X now has a permanent place of worship in Auckland.
On December 20, Bishop Alfonso Ruiz de Galarreta from Spain consecrated the chapel of the
Immaculate Heart of Mary and St John Fisher in Avondale.

The society brought the building from Ngongotaha about two years, it having been a Catholic
church there until it was deconsecrated.
A photographer at the consecration in Auckland, Geoff Dale, told NZ Catholic that before the
chapel, the society had worshipped in many different places in Auckland.
“We had been all over the place — to hockey clubs, and movie theatres, and anywhere we could
find,” he said.
“Now we are all settled in that church,” he said. “And that’s good.”
