TACLOBAN City — Over a million ponchos will be distributed to the pilgrims who will attend the Mass to protect them from possible rain.
Palo Archdiocese spokesperson Fr. Amadeo Alvero said heavy rain, deep floods and unruly well-wishers are but a few of the major concerns that the local committee on the papal visit to the Archdiocese of Palo is preparing for.
The archdiocese is coordinating closely with the military and the police, while requesting the public’s continued cooperation.
CBCP News reported the various committees in charge of the respective aspects of the Papal visit in the typhoon ravaged city have mapped out contingency plans for bad weather.
It quoted Fr Alvero as saying that while some activities may be cancelled due to bad weather, the papal Mass would definitely push through.
The ponchos which will be distributed to the pilgrims were donated by private firms.
Pope Francis will be the first pontiff to visit Tacloban City. It was reported that the Pope will be calling for more care for the environment.
