New Plymouth organist honoured

17 Margaret Hurley 2

Long-time organist for St Joseph’s Church in New Plymouth Margaret Hurley received the prestigious Benemerenti Award from Pope Francis for her musical contributions in the parish and wider community, her unwavering support of families and for her long service teaching. Mrs Hurley was described by parish priest Fr Simon Story as
a taonga not just to the Catholic community but to the wider New Plymouth community.

The 79-year-old retired teacher said she was accepting the award on behalf of all the parishioners of St Joseph’s.

She is pictured with family and friends.
