Gore school wins Bishop’s shield

The winning Bishop’s Shield team from St Peter’s College in Gore with Bishop Colin Campbell.

The 73rd annual Bishop’s Shield Otago and Southland Catholic Secondary Schools’ Public
Speaking Competition has been taken out by St Peter’s College from Gore, after finishing runners up the last two years. This year, Kavanagh College from Dunedin finished second.

The 2016 competition, attended by Bishop Colin Campbell, was hosted by St Kevin’s College in Oamaru.

Individual results were: Junior Drama 1st St Peter’s, 2nd St Kevin’s; Senior Drama 1st St Peter’s, 2nd St Kevin’s; Junior Scripture 1st Kavanagh, 2nd Verdon; Senior Scripture 1st Kavanagh, 2nd St Peter’s; Impromptu Speech 1st St Peter’s, 2nd Verdon; Prepared Speech 1st St Peter’s, 2nd St Kevin’s; Junior Debating 1st St Peter’s, 2nd Verdon; Senior Debating 1st St Peter’s; Best Speaker in Junior Debates St Peter’s; Best Leader Senior Debates St Peter’s; Best Speaker in Senior Debates St Peter’s; Most Promising Senior Dramatic Performance St Kevin’s; Most Promising Junior Dramatic Performance St Peter’s; Runner-up for the Bishop’s Shield (Marist Centennial Plate) Kavanagh.
