Marriage educators hold 13th national gathering

Cardinal John Dew and Joanne Gomez of Wellington are picked up at Auckland Airport
by Terry Sutherland, marriage educator and owner of First Class Classics.

More than 120 Catholic marriage educators from six cities came together from May 20 to 22 for a training weekend at Mt Wellington, Auckland. The theme of the weekend was The Art of Marriage — Crafting Strong Marriages and Families for Life.

The three keynote speakers were Cardinal John Dew, Aaron Ironside and Jennie and Scott Milne. Cardinal Dew talked about the papal exhortation, Amoris Laetitia; Mr Ironside, who has a Masters degree in psychology, spoke on the psychology of forgiveness; and the Milnes spoke about presenting as a couple. The weekend also included five workshops and a dinner
and dance on the Saturday, with an ethnic dress theme.

Participants came from Christchurch, Wellington, Palmerston North, Hamilton, Whangarei and Auckland.

According to Sandra Armstrong, who leads the Auckland diocese Marriage and Family team and was part of the 15-person training weekend organising committee, this was the 13th national training weekend for Catholic marriage educators.

The weekend is held once every two years.  The last time it was held in Auckland was 2006.
