Nesting quietly in the Ngakuru Valley 25 minutes from Rotorua is the picturesque Tyburn Monastery surrounded
by an enchanting rosary garden, green paddocks, trees, and flowering bushes.

Accompanying buildings, a part view of the lake, Calvary Hill and Stations of the Cross complete the scene.
One of the buildings is a historic chapel with a daily 9am Mass led by the chaplain, Fr Lucas Kupiarmala.
Since its inception in 2009, volunteers have contributed timeless energy helping the nuns maintain the monastery in all its splendour.
A recent visitor said that if she “only made it to Tyburn Monastery instead of heaven” she would be quite happy,
summing up the holiness and peace of the monastery and its grounds.
A long-needed job was to upgrade the long driveway (named God’s Rd) from Dods Road. That became a reality in December when a project team of Mother Prioress Rachael, Mother Joanna and Gordon Purdy arranged for Hickey Contractors Ltd, Rotorua, to grade, remetal, seal, and kerb and channel where necessary, the driveway.
Mother Rachael said it was a dream come true, a lovely Christmas present.
“We are all pleased with the wonderful work Hickey Contractors have done,” she said.
