Last month, Whitianga’s priest-inresidence Fr Leo Doyle celebrated the 60th anniversary of his ordination to priesthood.
A jubilee Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Onehunga on June 12 was followed by a gathering in the parish hall. Onehunga was one of the parishes where Fr Doyle had been parish priest.
The celebrations, organised by the Pioneers’ association, were well attended by his fellow priests, Pioneers, Legion of Mary members and many parishioners from parishes he has served.
Currently based in Whitianga, he also looks after Pauanui and Tairua.
Fr Doyle was ordained with 32 others at All Hallows Seminary in Ireland on June 12, 1955.
