Australia had been the Province of the Holy Spirit, and New Zealand and Tonga had been the NZ-Tonga Region of the Blessed Sacrament.
Prayerful discernment, discussion and planning preceded the union.
The new province team met in Christchurch in February for the first time. The team said later in a statement that, united in hope, they looked forward to this new expression and recalled
the words of their founder, Mary Potter: “We are messengers of God’s infinite and inclusive love. Let us thank God for the past — let us trust him for the future.”
