Second Lay Witness Congress held in Auckland

by NZ CATHOLIC staff
AUCKLAND — The second Catholic Lay Witness Congress was held on May 3 at St Joseph’s
Centre, Takapuna, in the presence of Bishop Patrick Dunn. Eleven apostolates took part.
Auckland representatives from a wide selection of Catholic apostolates and lay ministries
each spoke for 10 minutes on their respective apostolic work.
Questions followed.
The objective of the event was for those working in the Church’s vineyard to meet one another and acquaint themselves with and appreciate the various ministries and activities working in the broader Body of Christ.
The morning closed with Mass celebrated by Bishop Dunn and was followed by a light lunch,
giving the participants an opportunity to mix and mingle with one another, making connections,
and so on.
The congress is the brainchild of Brian Hines, who thought there was need for a forum to allow
people and groups to get to know one another and share the work each does for the Lord, and the way he calls and equips us.
Participants enjoyed the informal camaraderie, and left having made new friendships and with
a better understanding of how God is working in his Church. It is expected that another congress will be held in 2016.
