AUCKLAND Bishop Patrick Dunn will ordain two men in Auckland in June one a transitional deacon and the other to the priesthood. Gilbert Ramos, a native of the Philippines, studied at the Immaculate Conception seminary in his home country.

The dean of studies at the seminary, a friend of Auckland-based priest Fr Ruben Elago, MSP, suggested Mr Ramos come to Auckland to complete his training for the priesthood. He followed that advice.

Ordained deacon in February, Deacon Ramos has spent the last four months at Thames. He will become Fr Ramos on Saturday, June 14, at an 11.30am ordination Mass at St Patrick’s Cathedral.

The following week, Robert Steele will be ordained a transitional deacon for Auckland diocese. Mr Steele spent several years training for the priesthood in the 1970s, leaving Holy Cross Seminary shortly before completing the theology programme.

He returned to the seminary at the beginning of 2007 and has spent most of this year on pastoral placement at Remuera.

His ordination to the diaconate will take place at a Mass at that parish, St Michael’s, at 5pm on Saturday, June 21.
