Whanganui women honoured

17 vinnies ladies

Seven women from the Catholic Parish of Whanganui – Te Parihi Katorika Ki Whanganui – were recognised for their service in the Society of St Vincent de Paul at the 5.30pm Vigil Mass at Holy Family Church on November 9.

It is understood that the women each worked 20-30 years either in the society’s shop in Victoria Avenue, or in visiting or holding responsibilities within the organisation.

Local conference president Marianne Vine presented each with a framed long service certificate on behalf of the national office in Wellington and a cross from the international office in Paris, France.

Parish priest Fr Marcus Francis offered a thanksgiving prayer over them before they returned to their seats to warm applause from the congregation.
