I feel that the Holy Father is failing to tell the complete story when he exclaims: “Everyone can share in some way in the life of the church; everyone can be part of the community”. Would he include, say, Hitler and Obama ?
The complete story requires mention of the prerequisite for the Hitlers, Obamas et al, to cease their sinful lives and repent.
It is this “inclusiveness” that has so diminished the Church in the western world that parishioners now blissfully live in sin and receive Holy Communion while eschewing Reconciliation and serving enthusiastically on Catholic school boards and parish committees.
The membership requirement of commitment to the Church’s teaching on faith and morality is never raised.
One is brought to wonder why the R.C.I.A. process includes a course of instruction (catechumenate) in the teaching of the Church on faith and morals.
