Give us a break, please, Br Robert. Such foolish statements only reinforce the perception that OFM is virtually dead.
For how many centuries until the flouting of the regulation in recent decades has the Church called only males to be altar servers at the holy sacrifice of the Mass ?
If a “preference” for male altar servers is the most ridiculous thing you’ve ever heard, I have to assume that you’ve never heard “it’s not a baby, it’s just a part of the woman’s body”.
No wonder so many Catholic parents keep their children away from Marist schools.

Archbishop Porteous’ “preference” for male servers after high school age has to be the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. What will he say to the female servers after years of ministerial service at the altar? “Sorry, dear, your time is up because you are not of the same value as your male counterparts”? Perhaps those particular words will not be spoken, however, that’s the message these young women will indeed hear.

Is it more important than the eucharistic celebration that is going ! Come on!!!
